Safi water reuse plant
Investments in the sustainability of water supply
The impact of population growth, water scarcity and climate change on water availability is substantial. Reused water is the most sustainable water source, consuming four times less energy compared to desalinated sea water. The Safi Water Recycling Plant is a unique facility in Ajman, UAE where up to 13,000 cubic meters per day of treated wastewater is polished to very high-quality standards.

Customer challenge
As a responsible operator, Safi continuously monitors various parameters to ensure that the permeate water quality always meets the stringent requirements set by the End users industries. Water reuse often involves advanced treatment processes such as membrane filtration and reverse osmosis. Managing these complex treatment steps requires manpower, the availability of skilled personnel and substantial investments.
Realization
Ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis membranes are prone to fouling and scaling which occurs when dissolved and undissolved particles and minerals as well as microorganisms accumulate on the membrane surfaces, reducing permeability and energy efficiency. Optimal monitoring of critical parameters ensures initiating timely chemical cleaning and backwashing cycles which are critical to prevent flux degradation and prolong membrane lifespan and its replacement.
